Objectives

INNO4GRID aims to develop innovative control and operation tools that enable the reliable integration of renewable energy into Europe’s electricity grids.
The project pursues the following key objectives:

  • Develop an Interoperable Grid Workbench
Create a modular and scalable platform integrating advanced software tools and hardware assets for future electricity network operation.

  • Improve Grid Monitoring
Enhance wide-area situational awareness through real-time monitoring, advanced sensing technologies and improved grid observability.

  • Advance AI-Based Forecasting
Develop intelligent forecasting models for renewable generation, electricity demand and grid operating conditions to support proactive decision-making.

  • Enable Dynamic Security Assessment
Provide real-time system security assessment and contingency analysis to improve operational resilience under high renewable penetration.

  • Strengthen TSO–DSO Coordination
Develop interoperable coordination mechanisms that improve information exchange, operational planning and flexibility management between transmission and distribution system operators.

  • Unlock Distributed Flexibility
Enable the efficient participation of distributed energy resources, battery storage, electric vehicles and demand response in grid operation.

  • Demonstrate Innovative Solutions
Validate the developed technologies through four demonstration clusters representing diverse European electricity systems and operational environments.

  • Support European Climate Goals
Contribute to achieving Europe’s renewable energy and decarbonisation targets while improving grid reliability, efficiency and resilience.
